mobile-first marketing strategy

Have you considered a “mobile-first” strategy for your business? Internet traffic is now coming more from mobile devices than desktop. If you’re not focusing how you craft your online experience for mobile users, then you are missing a massive opportunity.

Here are some tips to get you on the mobile-first path to winning over your audience.

Make your website adaptive.
Your website needs to be mobile-friendly. It might look amazing on a computer screen, but oversized graphics, flash and large blocks of text don’t translate well to mobile platforms. (You'll notice that I often limit my blocks of text to 2-3 sentences for easy readability.)

Not sure if your website is adaptive? In Chrome, click on the triple-dot “more” button at the top right of your browser window, hover over More Tools and select Developer Tools. Then click on the Device Mode button, next to the word “Elements.” This view will allow you to select different device types and see in real time what your website will look like on that device.

Social sharing is free word-of-mouth.
When you post to your business’ social media accounts, posts with images are infinitely more interesting than posts with just text – this is why apps such as Instagram and Pinterest are so popular.

Facebook posts with images see 2.3 times more engagement than those without images. The majority of people who use social media are accessing it with their smartphone or other mobile device, so images need to be easy to interpret and text should be short and sweet to encourage reposts and shares.

Livestream video to make an emotional connection.
According to research conducted by Facebook, users spend 3 times more time watching live videos on Facebook than traditional videos. The reason for this is because live video is more interesting in the moment than it is after the fact.

Don't ignore TikTok.
This social media juggernaut is NOT just kids recording dance videos for likes. TikTok is primarily driven by organic traffic, and is a largely untapped market for many brands. Don't have crazy budget to spend on Facebook and Instagram advertising? TikTok is worth the effort to share well-planned video content that educates and entertains.

Simply put, if you’ re not offering a satisfactory mobile experience for your audience, you may miss out on opportunities to connect with them, and they may end up with your competitors.
